How Do I Become The Best Version Of Me?

How Do I Become The Best Version Of Me?

You’re amazing as you are.

But we all have days where we feel we could do more. That’s completely normal. Growth is an important part of life. Most people want to consistently improve, whether it’s to get a promotion, have better relationships, make more money, or feel more fulfilled.

So how do you work on becoming the best version of yourself on a daily and consistent basis? What can you do to continue growing into the best person you can be?

  1. Envision the best version of yourself.

“I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become.” – Carl Gustav Jung

Who do you want to be?

Create a list of the qualities that you believe would define the “best” version of you.

For example, your “yes” list might include adjectives like:

  • Playful
  • Relaxed
  • Positive
  • Passionate
  • Caring

You likely already have most of these qualities—even if you don’t realize it yet! Half the battle is acknowledging and enhancing the already-beautiful parts of yourself.

After listing all the qualities you want, list those that you absolutely don’t want in the best version of yourself. Examples of the “no” might include:

  • Impatient
  • Short-tempered
  • Sad
  • Judgmental
  • Frustrated

Consider those situations where you are most like the list of “yes” adjectives. Is it when you’re around your partner? when you’re playing in the park? when you’re doing your favorite hobby?

What do you feel and experience in those moments that make you feel like the best version of yourself?

Now consider those situations where you are most like the “no” adjectives. Is it when you’re working on a certain type of project? When you’re tired? When you don’t have enough time for yourself?

What can you do to minimize these situations and events? If you can’t minimize the events, what steps do you need to take in order to avoid falling into these negative traits?

  1. Create goals for all areas of your life.

If you want to be the best version of yourself, you need to think about every aspect of your life. This includes:

  • Work/career
  • Relationships
  • Body
  • Mind
  • Emotions

Create one monthly goal and one yearly goal for each area. Don’t make them unattainable.

Set reachable goals that will make you feel good as you achieve them. After attaining one goal, your sense of pride and accomplishment will drive you to set another one, and so on.

  1. Have the right friends.

“Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.” –

Oprah Winfrey

You are a product of the five people you spend the most time with. So spend your time with friends who build you up. This doesn’t mean friends who constantly compliment you or make you feel good about yourself. You want friends who will challenge you.

Notice the kinds of energy that surrounds you throughout your day. Do your coworkers constantly gossip and complain? Do your friends spend time focusing on the negative in their lives? You might want to find a new group or bring a fresh, positive perspective to your current one.

You and your friends should be building each other up and challenging one another. This helps you grow in a consistent, comfortable way.

  1. Love yourself.

You are perfect. You may have areas you don’t love about yourself—and that’s okay. That makes you human. But you are reading this article because you want to improve and be even more outstanding. That desire for growth is already a strong quality trait.

So don’t forget to love yourself unconditionally each and every day. That self-love will bring you more in-tune with the best version of yourself.

  1. Develop your skills.

Growth takes work. You need to find new ways to grow your skills. This could be learning a new skill at work that can get you to the next promotion or it could be learning how to meditate for deep inner peace.

Look at your list of “yes” qualities. What skills and experiences do you need in order to live out those qualities?

For example, you want to be more playful, but right now you find yourself too serious. In order to do this, maybe you need to learn how to let go of some of the worries in your life. You could take an improv class at a local community center or spend more time meditating to fight off your daily stressors.

One of the best ways to consistently develop new skills and traits is by reading inspirational texts, like the Tree of Life blog!
