“7 Steps To a Luxurious At-Home Facial.”

Hello,

This is Martha Thomas, head of customer care for Tree of Life Beauty, and I want to welcome you to our weekly newsletter where we discuss important ways to age gracefully, “how-tos” for keeping skin healthy as you age, and so much more about your skincare regimen.

This week we will discuss “7 Steps To a Luxurious At-Home Facial.” If you missed any of our past newsletters, please check them out here on our blog.

Please be advised that we are not doctors or dermatologists, and this article should not be taken as medical advice or any medical statement. Any questions or issues involving your skin-care needs should be taken up with a physician, and we highly recommend you consult with your doctor before taking up any skin-care regimen.

Did you know that dermatologists recommend getting a facial every time the season changes? And with how our wacky weather has been acting, that’s every week! So what can you do to get luxury-spa skin results right in your own bathroom?

Here are Tree of Life’s 7 simple steps to an at-home facial that will give you glowing, youthful-looking skin in 20 minutes!

1. Remove Makeup

The first step is to create a blank canvas. You don’t want any leftover makeup, debris, or oils being scrubbed into your face.

That means you should never use a harsh washcloth or makeup remover pad to get rid of eyeliner and foundation. Scrubbing can strip your skin of essential oils, making your face look more tired, agitated, and aged.

There are a lot of natural ways to remove makeup, but one of our favorites involves only three ingredients! Take a tablespoon of raw honey, and add a bit of baking soda and a few drops of olive or argan oil. Whip it into a paste and apply with a warm washcloth in gentle strokes.

2. Cleanse

The cleansing step ensures that your pores are open, clear, and susceptible to the luxurious products of your natural, at-home facial.

Use a gentle and protective cleanser, like our Vitamin C Cleanser.
Wash your cleanser away with warm water to create the effect of a steamer (but make sure the water’s not too hot that it burns). Cold water closes pores, while warm water opens them up—open pores are ready to accept all the goodies you’re going to put on your face.

3. Exfoliate

Then comes one of my favorite steps—exfoliation! Exfoliating is like a calming, meditative face massage.

Sugar is an amazing exfoliator because its grains buff old, dry skin cells away. It’s also a natural source of glycolic acid, which can boost new skin cell production and soften skin texture.

There are a lot of ways to use sugar as a face scrub. One of the easiest ways is to make a paste by mixing white or brown sugar with olive oil. Apply it in circular motions, carefully avoiding the eye area. This is the perfect exfoliating base to expose a new, healthy layer of skin for your next four natural at-home facial steps.

4. Apply Mask

The most relaxing part of a facial is the mask. This is the moment where you can place something cooling on your skin, sit back, and simply meditate in the calm. Time to focus on your skin and de-stress.

There are a lot of great natural, highly organic mask products out there. Our personal favorite, Tree of Life Beauty's Dead Sea Mud Mask is an exceptionally high-quality skin-care mask which helps exfoliate, sooth, clean, and clear skin.

5. Use Toner

The toner is the most underrated part of the facial. After so much cleansing and exfoliating from the past four steps, your skin is raw and exposed. What goes on your skin next is crucial: this layer should be soothing and chock-full of vitamins and antioxidants to restore your skin back to its normal pH.

Our Vitamin C Toner will help soothe your skin with other organic ingredients, like tea tree oil, organic orange, organic white willow, and organic cranberry—creating a delicious and calming aroma for your skin and nostrils!

6. Treat Problem Points

People tend to skip over this step, but just a few extra minutes focusing on your problem areas can drastically increase the value of your at-home facial. Focus on dark spots, scars, acne, blackheads, or under-eye circles in this step. You want to find a product that targets your specific problem point with appropriate ingredients and antioxidants, like our Vitamin C Eye Gel or Scar Cream With Arnica Montana and Vitamin E.

7. Moisturize

Did you know the secret to a youthful-looking face is your skin’s ability to retain moisture? Moisturizing is the last step for a reason. This is the last layer your skin absorbs, and it’s the most important.

You can use a traditional cream-based moisturizer, but this can leave your skin feeling oily. Instead, opt for a serum that will add and retain moisture with a light touch. Use products with high organic content so as not to reverse all the great detoxification properties of your at-home facial.

Hyaluronic acid retains 370% more moisture than even the collagen protein molecule—and this helps to keep your skin supple and stunning! Try our moisturizing Hyaluronic Acid Serum to try all the hydrating and boosting effects for yourself.

In these 7 steps, you’ll create a 20-minute luxurious at-home facial that will trick your glowingly radiant skin into thinking you spent the entire day at the spa!
