Hello,
This is Martha Thomas, head of customer care for Tree of Life Beauty, and I want to welcome you to our weekly blog where we discuss important ways to age gracefully, “how-tos” for keeping skin healthy as you age, and so much more about your skincare regimen.
Please be advised that we are not doctors or dermatologists, and this article should not be taken as medical advice or any medical statement. Any questions or issues involving your skin-care needs should be taken up with a physician, and we highly recommend you consult with your doctor before taking up any skin-care regimen.

We at Tree of Life Beauty went on a mission to uncover what mindfulness skin trend truly means and what it can do for your skin.
What Is Mindfulness?
mindfulness: (noun) the practice of maintaining a nonjudgmental state of heightened or complete awareness of one’s thoughts, emotions, or experiences on a moment-to-moment basis (Merriam-Webster)
We always think of mindfulness as being attentive to others and ourselves. Awareness of thoughts, feelings, and sensations is one half of mindfulness, but the other half is acceptance. We do not only need to think about what goes on in our lives… we must accept it without judgment.
There are countless studies that prove mindfulness is good for our bodies, minds, focus, relationships, education, and even our sense of compassion and altruism. (Learn more about mindfulness benefits and exercises through the University of California Berkeley here.)
Mindfulness And Skincare
Mindfulness has rolled into skin care practices as part of a holistic sense of awareness. Well-being is not only in the physical, but also in the emotional and spiritual levels—and skin care can help to cleanse all three areas. Taking care of your skin can cleanse your mind just as much as it cleanses your pores.
So, how can you introduce mindfulness into your skincare routine?
- Use your morning cleanse as a time to meditate.
One of the best ways to start your day is by splashing some cool water on your face and waking up to a brightening, antioxidant-rich cleanser. During this time, focus on the act of washing your face. Don’t think about what you have to do today or all the stresses you may be facing.
Use those moments to gently massage the product on your face. There is nothing else you need to be doing or thinking about right now but your cleansing.
- Clean out your cabinet.
In order to clean your mind, you should clean the area in which you live—and that includes your medicine cabinet. Get rid of the products you don’t use in order to create more space.
With fewer products, your mind will feel less cluttered and decisive. Purchase a few products that will do the job of many at once, such as a hydrating serum that can function as both a moisturizer and cream. Less is more.
- Indulge in a night cream.
Your body and mind reset at night. But this is also the time where the mind often starts to overthink, racing at a mile a minute.
If you make a routine of applying cream at night, right before bed, it can supposedly even trigger your brain that it’s bedtime. This may actually help you fall asleep faster, become more mindful, and improve your overall rest and well-being.
In keeping with the spirit of clarity and mindfulness, we decided to keep our list short and sweet with only three major points. These three steps will help you add holistic mindfulness into your skincare routine.
And don’t forget to take into account the “nonjudgmental” aspect of the definition of mindfulness. Stop scrutinizing your skin and body. Stop focusing on your perceived flaws. Instead, start focusing on your beauty—both inside and out.
Until next time, have a beautiful day, and if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us anytime.
