Which Serum Should You Use?

Which Serum Should You Use?

Hello,

This is Martha Thomas, head of customer care for Tree of Life Beauty, and I want to welcome you to our weekly newsletter where we discuss important ways to age gracefully, “how-tos” for keeping skin healthy as you age, and so much more about your skincare regimen.

Please be advised that we are not doctors or dermatologists, and this article should not be taken as medical advice or any medical statement. Any questions or issues involving your skin-care needs should be discussed with a physician, and we highly recommend you consult with your doctor before taking up any skin-care regimen.

Serums are lightweight, so they do not look or feel greasy on the skin. Serums should be applied after cleansing and toning and before moisturizing. This allows the serum to sink into freshly cleaned pores to best introduce the nutrients to the skin. The moisturizer then sits on top, acting as a protective barrier while the serum works its magic. It is recommended to use a serum once per day, often at night.

But how do you choose which serum to use? What’s best for your skin type and needs? What serums will work well with the other products in your skincare regimen?

Hydration

If you have dry or dehydrated skin, it’s imperative that you use moisturizing products in every step of your skincare routine. This is especially true if you are looking to minimize fine lines, since moisture is the key to supple, youthful skin. Serums are lightweight and won’t clog your pores, so they are an especially great option for people who have combination skin.

We recommend a hyaluronic acid serum because it is ultra-moisturizing, and it penetrates deep down to create long-term hydration. Hyaluronic acid serums lock in water while promoting collagen production for youthful, plump skin.

Radiance

If you’re looking for overall radiant and glowing skin, a vitamin C serum is the best option.

Plus, vitamin C is the perfect addition to any skincare routine because it is so light and brightening. If you use retinol or other drying products, a vitamin C serum will help rebalance skin and minimize irritation. Vitamin C will give you the brilliant, healthy glow you’ve searching for.

Under Makeup

If you want to prep your skin for makeup application, a serum is a great base coat. Serums are lightweight and quickly absorbed into the skin, so you won’t have a heavy layer on top when trying to apply your foundation. Still, they can provide moisture that allows your makeup to go on smoother.

We recommend a niacinamide serum. It creates a barrier on the skin while also tightening pores. Plus, niacinamide serums have a soft and silky application, so it won’t make your foundation look cakey or blotchy. It’s the ideal serum to create a glowing blank canvas!

Adding the right serum to your skincare routine can drastically improve the look of skin, no matter what kind of skin concerns you have. Serums deliver fast, powerful results that will have your skin thanking you!
